Junior Online Editor Tara Booth on the impending awards season and red carpet glamour…
Hooray, it’s only bloomin’ February!
My sudden burst of delight is not due to the imminent snow forecast, nor the evidence of gradual lighter evenings. It’s not even due to the fact January is over and my bank balance is a tad healthier. Oh no. It’s February, which means…. It’s award season! All hail Hollywood for the annual Oscars!
Despite an eruption of joy, I wouldn’t say I’m a super massive movie geek (although I have been described in the past as having a brain with it’s own IMDB cortex). I just love the whole celebratory feel and glam character of it all. And it's true, I admit it, the fashion has become very much more than the awards ceremony itself.
The red carpet interviews; the leading ladies and their fabulous frocks; the leading ladies and their downright awful frocks; the tears; the glamour; the bad speeches…. It’s all a very American affair and I love it.
This month on the big day I’ll be staying up late with the gals to catch the live awards on telly. We’ll be sipping on bubbly and scrutinising the fashion all on my 46 incher. Who will wear it best? Who will pull a Gwyneth and sob her way through an acceptance speech? Who will – shock horror – wear something out of the ordinary? (Feathered swan, anyone?) And, of course, who will win?
Whatever happens, there’s guaranteed to be a plethora of beautiful actors draped in stunning gowns and million-dollar diamond accessories. And I’m sure the gals and I will have a fun night whoever wins a golden statue.
So make sure you drop by later this month as we’ll be bringing you an Oscar special round up of our best-dressed… watch this space.
