Guest post from one of our Mum of the Year judges
So it's the lead up to Christmas, and what I want to know is, who is super organised and has already done their shopping, or who is like me, busy busy busy, rushed off their feet and trying to do everything last minute?
It's been such a whirlwind past few weeks. My new book Dance to the Musicals just launched, and I have been doing interview after television appearance after book signing, and loving every minute of it.
I'm really overwhelmed by the response to the book - it seems people really do want to dance to the musicals. I've also been doing readings followed by Q&A sessions where I let the audience ask me anything they want - and wow, do they ask some questions. The kids want to know all about the dancing, the mums how to stay in shape, and the dads all about the naughty Hot Gossip days!
A few weeks ago I was invited to help judge the Tesco Mum of the Year Awards, alongside Denise Lewis, Emma Forbes, Michelle Mone and Tara Cain, and I have to say it was an amazingly emotional task. The stories we read of incredible bravery and courage in the most adverse of situations were just so overwhelming, and I can't wait until the award ceremony in March to meet the very deserving winners.
Another thing I've been very emotionally involved with recently is my campaigning for Alzheimer’s awareness. It’s a disease very close to my heart as my father was diagnosed with it. I have been doing several radio and television interviews discussing new treatments and ways to prolong prevention, and also simply just how to help those affected.
Let's hope the New Year brings understanding, empathy, tenderness and care to all who need it.
