Fiona Phillips reveals why she's so proud to be part of our awards
Back in 2007 I was named Tesco Celebrity Mum of the Year. I still vividly remember feeling awestruck by the other winning mums who’d performed the most astonishingly selfless and inspirational acts of love.
The following year I was asked to host the ceremony for the first time. The ceremony has been a firm fixture in my diary ever since and the thrill of taking my first peek at the sumptuous room at the Waldorf Hotel in London where it all takes place never fails to kick off my excitement.
I love meeting the mums before they nervously take to the stage; seeing how beautiful they look after being pampered by stylists and make-up artists so that they feel armed and ready to walk the red carpet and bask in the recognition of their achievements.
Over the years I’ve met so many exceptional mums at the awards. In fact, if we got them all together and transplanted them into Number 10 Downing Street, they’d have no trouble running the country.
It’s great to be part of a glorious, moving day of celebration during which they’re all spoilt rotten with a champagne reception, followed by a delicious three course meal, and the awards ceremony itself where a whole array of celebrities can’t wait to hand out the awards and congratulate them.
Once gallons of tears have been spilt, and our hands are sore from clapping and voices hoarse from cheering the magical day draws to a close. As always, I’m one of the last to leave, full of pride at the achievements of our wonderful mums. Roll on March 11 2012!
